Since leaving the Pimlico Road after over 20 years in July 2022, I have been navigating how to consolidate those decades of learning and experience into my working life. These past two years have been fascinating, busy and somewhat schizophrenic but have allowedme to distil my plans.
In January 2025, Dreweatts shall sell a combination of my stock and personal collection at auction. It will be a wildly diverse selection from an Adelie penguin egg collected in an Antarctic Expedition in 1914 to Danish Design of the 1940’s. There will be the unrestored alongside the ‘ready-to-go.’
I shall continue to keep these pages, and my social media updated with news about this sale.
Which brings me to the structural changes at Guy Tobin. Having always described myself as an Antique Dealer, it will be with some sadness that I retire this as the spearhead of my operation. In its place, I shall be helping and advising clients to navigate our world. Be this helping to sell or grow existing collections; to aid them in understanding what it is they are living with, how to improve pieces and make the whole a greater asset. A greater asset both financially and more importantly as the place they live. Or more simply it might be to find that one piece that has always been coveted; the one piece that will tie everything together. Alongside this holistic offer, I shall also be on call to help with wear & tear, restoration & conservation – who is best at doing a specific task.
I have spent many years working alongside the Interior Design trade both in the UK and abroad; I understand when to step forward to give an opinion; more importantly I also know when to listen. I will sit between client & trades to finesse projects both long and short term. This might involve finding furniture & lighting, designing site specific pieces, starting a conversation around how a property can be altered to suit new owners.
Beside this ‘hand holding’ I shall also be returning to furniture & lighting design. Something I was fortunate to discover in my days at Uniacke and have subsequently become the mainstay of her business.
Working with a variety of manufacturers, I am going to be launching designs informed by my years of handling, researching and selling. The first piece being a little occasional table called the Shroton…..watch this space.
Please do give me a call or drop me an email to see if we might be able to work together.
